Midnight Terror Haunted House is home to Chicago's scariest haunts. Learn about all of the nightmares that await you below!

Black Oak Grove was once a quiet, close-knit town, but those days are long gone. Decades ago, a girl named Willow, fleeing her abusive father and shunned by her neighbors, was led through a violent thunderstorm by the town’s gravedigger, Silas - The Hollow Keeper. Desperate for shelter, she discovered a strange book hidden in the twisted branches of the town’s oldest black oak tree. When she opened it, everything changed. Malum, a dark entity born of fear and rage, was released.

Since that night, Black Oak Grove has pulsed with supernatural energy-drawing the attention of a secretive group known only as The Watchers, or “Agents.” Under the cover of ShadowTek Corporation, they took over the abandoned Black Oak Gear Factory and transformed it into a high-tech lab where they harvest and weaponize fear. Willow now appears only during violent thunderstorms—drawn by the same lightning that helped awaken Malum. Silas, lantern and shovel in hand, still wanders the outskirts, harvesting fear from those who get too close. ShadowTek’s experiments have warped the town into an endless Halloween night—where illusions, nightmares, and fear have become a reality. The past haunts every corner.

And the story of Willow and Malum, though buried, is the root of it all.

Attraction LINEUP

Black Oak Grove feels like a town stuck in Halloween night. Fog covers the streets, trick-or-treaters move with something dark behind their eyes, and the monsters you were scared of as a kid are real again. There’s candy on every doorstep—but something about it isn’t right. That’s where the nightmare begins.

Deep within the Black Oak Gear Factory, a high-tech research firm called ShadowTek has been conducting unauthorized psychological trials, collectively termed Experiment 1031.
These experiments immerse victims in dream-like states where their deepest fears materialize. Mutated growths, pulsing and twisting, erupt from their bodies. ShadowTek extracts fear like fuel, spreading it through the town like a virus. Whatever resides within that factory... it’s no longer human.

The carnival rolled into Black Oak Grove one Halloween—and never left. Its tents rot. The Stages are cursed. The clowns…laugh louder now. They roam the fog with broken grins, lunging without warning. Chainsaws hum in the distance like lullabies. No one knows how it got here. No one dares tear it down.

This isn’t your escape from the madness—it’s part of it.
Axe throwing. Carnival games. Fast-paced escape rooms. Oversized photo ops. It all feels like fun—until it doesn’t.
A palm reader waits in silence, offering answers no one wants. Magicians and jugglers distract the crowd while something stalks behind them. The air smells like kettle corn and fog. The lights feel a little too dim. It’s just enough comfort to make you let your guard down.

At the edge of town lies Rotten Hallows—once the peaceful Black Oak Cemetery. Nearly 20 years ago, lightning struck the black oak tree at its center during a Halloween storm. Witnesses swear they saw Silas, the Hollow Keeper, standing in the storm, laughing as his lantern burned brighter than ever.

By morning, pumpkins had burst from graves, glowing with trapped souls. Vines wrapped around headstones. Scarecrows stitched from burial clothes lined the paths. Now, Rotten Hallows is a twisted harvest ground. Silas roams with shovel and lantern, carving fear from the earth itself. Locals whisper that carving a jack-o’-lantern can help you save you from him. But every time one is carved, its seeds spread more fear.
